Planning your visit allows you to get the most from the consultation.
New referrals: Arrive 10 min early to fill out registration form. Bring all referral letters, specialist letters for other medical conditions, any relevant investigations, even if you have been told they have been sent through. Write down any questions you may have to get all the information about your condition you would like.
Follow up: Arrive 5 min early for consultation, within COVID-19 restrictions allows. Ensure to bring imaging from last consult with Dr Drynan, unless a post op visit.
A consultation fee will be charged. This will depend on whether it is your first time seeing Dr Drynan and if your injury is associated with a WorkCover claim or a motor vehicle accident (CTP claim).

Undergoing an operation is careful consideration by yourself, and your surgeon. A discussion should cover your concerns and questions regarding the procedure, operative details, recovery and outcomes. Many of these aspects are specific to your case and pathology (condition), but there are a few steps that are to be expected with operations that can make your recovery smoother.
You will be discharged from hospital with pain relief for 4-7 days cover. After this time you would be advised to see your local doctor to assist with your pain control.
You will have dressings applied from the operation, and these should remain intact until your post operative review.
At your pre operative appointment or on the operative day, you will receive a surgical journey document to help guide you through the process. You will often have a physiotherapy referral with these documents.

Scapulothoracic movement, strength and balance has a large influence on shoulder movement and function. It is a good idea to rehabilitated these muscles in your post operative recovery.
After the initial recovery of surgery, guided movement it essential for optimising outcomes, preventing stiffness and improving pain. Phase 2 is guided passive recover following rotator cuff repair and total shoulder arthroplasty.
At this time period the tendons are healing to the bone with enough strength to allow the muscle activation to start. The movement of the shoulder is initiated with the repaired muscles and assisted with the other arm or body in several different exercises. As you progress in your post operative recovery, and the tissues heal, increasing the rehabilitation is a good idea to return your to your best function. These are phase 4 exercises for rotator cuff rehabilitation, and can be used earlier in arthroplasty cases.
